Scavenger Hunt Helps Illustrate Summer Lessons
Looking for a way to get out of your classroom during those hot summer months? Heres an idea that could be used with older children, youth and even adults. Its a scavenger hunt where the items to be found are related to the weekly Sunday school lesson. During a brief opening class session, have the class members list words that are related to the study of the day. Words such as "love," "joy," "faith," etc. After you get a list of at least 10 or 12 words, divide the class into teams with two or three persons to a team. Have each team make a list of all of the words and then send the teams out on the scavenger hunt to find items that illustrate each word on the list. Be sure all teams are aware of the time limit they have for finding items and the area or areas where they may conduct their search. Allow a little time for teams to come back together in the classroom to share the items that they have found. An important part of this hunt is to have teams explain why they think the items they have found illustrate the word related to the lesson.
