It Worked For Us…

Newspaper Article Used As Discussion Starters

By Edward Brown

I have always found that weekly lessons in the adult Sunday school class I teach seem to go better if we start with a good illustration or discussion starter that gets everyone thinking about the lesson topic. One of my favorite ways of doing this is to get a newspaper article that relates to the topic of the day. I start off by reading the article and then asking questions that lead into the lesson.

The key to finding good articles or illustrations is to look at the lesson early in the week. I know what the topic is and then, as I read the newspaper or magazines each day, I’m on the lookout for things I could use. As I come across articles that I think I might be able to use with some future lesson, I clip them and place them in a file folder.
