Teaching Prayer in S.S.
The Bible tells us that Jesus disciples once came to him with a request, "Lord, teach us to pray." (Luke 11:1)
Within our Sunday schools, our students also have a need to learn how to pray and we, as Sunday school teachers and leaders, have a responsibility to help them learn how to pray and how to make prayer an important part of their life. What can we do? Here are a few ideas:
- Make prayer a part of your class time. Ask members to participate in a prayer at the start of each class session.
- Set up prayer partners for your class.
- Study examples of prayers found in the Bible. What are the elements of these prayers? Why were these persons praying? How were the prayers answered?
- Ask your students to bring prayer requests to class. Write the requests on a board or large sheet of paper. Pray for the requests in class and ask students to pray for them on their own, too.
- Ask students to keep a prayer diary of requests and answers. Discuss how each was or wasnt answered in your class.
