Do People Really Want To Shop On Sunday?

Is it necessary for businesses to be open on Sunday? To listen to some people tell it, you would believe that businesses live or die from what they do on Sunday, and, for many businesses, Sunday is their busiest day of the week. But is this really true?

A recent article in "U.S.A. Today" (October 6, 1993), quoting a survey by the International Mass Retail Association, reported that Sunday is far down the list as days favored by consumers to do their shopping. In fact, only Monday and Tuesday were less popular for shopping.

According to the survey, favorite shopping days are:

Saturday - 29%; Friday - 17%; Thursday - 13%; Wednesday - 12%; Sunday - 7%; Tuesday - 5% Monday - 4%; No preference - 13%
